The Indian Scops Owl (Otus bakkamoena)
This small owl is difficult to spot in the daytime because of its natural camouflage . It is grey or brown in colour on the top while the underparts are buff with darker streaking. The prominent tufts or ears sit atop a facial disc that is whitish in colour. The owl nests in holes in trees laying 3-5 eggs. Feeds mainly on insects.
