The Everglades in Florida are wetlands which have a wide variety of birds. One bird that you will not miss is the Purple Gallinule. This brightly colored purple bird has a bright red spot over its beak and yellow legs. Be sure to be on the lookout for this bird when you visit the Everglades.

Indian Scops Owl
The Indian Scops Owl (Otus bakkamoena)
This small owl is difficult to spot in the daytime because of its natural camouflage . It is grey or brown in colour on the top while the underparts are buff with darker streaking. The prominent tufts or ears sit atop a facial disc that is whitish in colour. The owl nests in holes in trees laying 3-5 eggs. Feeds mainly on insects.

Brown Hawk-Owl (Ninox scutulata)
So called because of its hawk like shape, this is a medium sized owl with dark brown upperparts and whitish with reddish brown streaking underparts. The eyes are large and yellow. Sexes are similar. It feed mainly on large insects, frogs, lizards, small birds and mice. The bird nests in tree holes and lays 3 to 5 eggs.
